Drilling

FJV performs turnkey construction of production, exploration, appraisal, observation and parametric wells, and also supplies separate drilling services.

Currently, the company employs ZJ-40 mobile units with the load capacity of 225 tons to drill vertical, directional and horizontal wells with the total depth up to 4,000 m (13K ft). For boreholes above 4,000 m, ZJ-70 drilling units are used (load capacity of 450 tons).

  • Vertical Wells

    Vertical Wells

Vertical wells are defined as wells with the departure of the borehole from vertical not exceeding 5°.  In case the deviation is found to be over 5°, the well is referred to as directional.

  • Horizontal Wells

    Horizontal Wells

Horizontal wells are defined as wells with the departure of the wellbore from vertical exceeding 80-90°. Since “nature has no straight lines” and oil reservoirs occur at rather high angles, it makes little sense in practical terms to drill a horizontal well at an angle of 90°. It might be more reasonable to make a borehole path along the formation trajectory. Therefore, a horizontal well typically refers to a well with an extended filter zone – a borehole drilled primarily along the bedding of the target reservoir in the specified azimuth direction.

  • Sidetracking

    Sidetracking

Sidetracking is one of the most efficient drilling technologies that optimizes production and improves oil recovery efficiency in brownfields. The technology is also applied to reverse a well kill when other methods prove inefficient. Sidetracking operations help explore geologic features and produce neighbouring regions of a reservoir, as well as develop hard-to-recover reserves that cannot be otherwise developed. There are two main sidetracking methods applied in idle wells, namely drilling with a deflecting wedge and cutting out a section of a string.

  • Well Completion

    Well Completion

Well completion is considered to be the final stages of the drilling operation. Well completion jobs are aimed at inflow stimulation by means of dropping the borehole pressure below the formation pressure.

This is achieved through the application of one of the main techniques:

    • decreasing the drilling mud density;
    • lowering the drilling mud level.

Well completion is a technological cycle that follows its construction (drilling, casing and cementing). The operators shall restore the formation flow characteristics at the initial and stimulated completion stages, as well as at the stage of flow stimulation treatments. The quality of well completion defines the rates and the nature of field development.

ZJ-40 Drilling Unit

The fleet of ZJ-40 units allows FJV to build oil & gas production and test wells of the total depth up to 4,000 m (13K ft), and to perform sidetracking operations.

We have achieved excellent performance (both in technical and economic terms) due to innovative bit programs and high-torque bottomhole motors. The units feature four-stage mud cleaning systems, isolated diesel power plants, hydraulic tubing tongs, cantilever revolving cranes and other equipment. In the course of drilling operations, all parameters are being monitored by cutting-edge control systems, thus ensuring flawless and failure-free execution.
